With ideas streaming out of my head, I’ve not finished anything at all… apart from a small suburban oil… and a purple silk dress.

Yes I know, I’m a really mean teacher giving you all work to do.. but hey, you’re artists, so get on with it and enjoy!

Think about the themes, and choose the one that really appeals to you. You can use ANY medium. Please be adventurous. More info on the webpage…

I really do love embroidery. I love the texture, the feel, the dynamic. It is seriously underated as a medium. My sojourn to the evening branch of Woking’s Embroiderer’s Guild, has inspired me to complete a couple of samplers. These are to be used as part of the guild’s joint piece on Recycling and Re-using. I decided to incorporate bits of rusty metal and tea stained baby wipes… and odd bits of plastic.

I tend to have several sketchbooks on the go at once. Some to experiment with textiles, others for more detailed drawings, some for paint, some for stitch…

Here I’ve tried out some ideas for cityscapes, landscapes and textures using PVA glue and tissue paper.

More later….

Bless them, they’re off into the big wide world. We said our sad goodbyes on Thursday… it was quite emotional. Good luck guys with the exams, and come and see me sometime!

Hello Blog friends

Year 11 mock exams this week, so just a bit hectic. I’m really proud of all their efforts, and feeling a bit more optimistic about the real thing.

I’ve been working on the lime and violet theme of the C&G course, and am very excited about the prep stuff so far.

I have made a start on the green/blue canvas for Phillip…. after a deep discussion in the glorious Festival Hall yesterday…. can’t think of a title at the moment.

I plan to start Cath’s evening wedding dress this week…. really looking forward to creating this…

I’m now off to finish the 12 TigerLily headresses for the school show… byeee

Hello blog friends

At the beginning of the month, I decided to focus a bit more on the stitch and textiles part of my work. I joined the amazing Embroiderer’s Guild, and went along to the local branch meeting. Wow! What an amazing group of women. All ages, tons of experience, all passionate about some aspect of textile art. So very different in atmosphere to the art societies I have encountered… so totally unpretentious for a start!

Anyway, I’ve embarked on the City & Guilds Level 3 Cert in Embroidered Textiles, and will post some stuff here along the way…

I’m working on a painting for my dear friend Phillip at the moment…. at least I’ve done loads of preliminary stuff, and the blank canvas is gazing expectantly at me.

The “Matlock Bath” (yes, Rog, I am pronouncing it correctly) piece is almost complete. I took the canvas off it’s frame so I could stitch it freely…. quite pleased so far…all pinks, crimsons, golds and purple…. It was pouring with rain when we spent the day there, but still so beautiful… good ice cream too.

Having two kittens is proving to be interesting when I’m working. Monty had pink paws this week, and Amber stuck her nose in green paint… then she walked across my wet piece… Tom and Anouska said that it added something, but they were just covering up their guilt as they’d left the door open!

Anyway, time to go….

Cate
