Today I bought my birthday present (wonderful husband asks me what I want, and if it’s complicated then I buy it myself… works brilliantly)… anyway, I’ve been frustrated by my cheap and cheerful sewing machine, so decided to go for a new Janome… went to Woking Sewing and Knitting machine Centre, and had a chat with Jim. Stayed there for nearly an hour, and fell in love with the 8077. (Also fell in love with the Janome Embellisher, but that will be another story). Anyway, I will let you know how I get on with it.

I’ve been making a few bags recently, mainly from recycled fabric. I stumbled upon Lisa Lam’s website http://www.u-handbag.com/, which is just amazing, with lots of advice as well as gorgeous bits and pieces for making bags. I like the idea of making a simple carrier bag from old silk that can be shoved in your handbag or pocket when you go out… so here is the first attempt…… I have used a gorgeous piece of recycled sari fabric that I dyed orange. I lined the bag with organza.
